Quality Plan Analysis and Quality Assurance Plan

The New Employee Orientation (NEO) project at Nearlyfree.com has exceeded its initial budget, putting it at risk of failure. The existing quality plan lacks the identification of all required resources and fails to define project quality. This document analyzes the current quality plan and identifies the project’s failure points.

Quality Standards

Quality management standards encompass requirements, specifications, guidelines, and characteristics that products, services, and processes should consistently meet. These standards ensure that the quality aligns with expectations, is fit for purpose, and meets user needs (Quality Management Standards, n.d., para. 3). ISO 10006, a standard within the ISO 9000 family, provides guidelines for quality management in projects (Harding, 2004), aligning with the PMBOK Project Quality Management Standards (ISO, 2020).

Analyzing Product Quality

NearlyFree.com’s quality plan is compared to ISO’s recommended standards, specifically ISO 9001’s eight principles of Quality Management. Recommendations include establishing key events with critical suppliers, addressing consistent systems, identifying leaders and their roles, identifying key influencers, and scheduling progress meetings with leaders.

Quality Assurance

Quality assurance (QA) is defined as a systematic process to determine whether a product or service meets specified requirements (Gillis, 2019, para. 1). A QA review revealed failures in the NEO project, acknowledging that the Cost of Quality (CoQ) is double the project budget. A new Quality Assurance Plan is recommended.

Cost of Quality

The CoQ methodology determines resource usage for preventing poor quality, appraising quality, and addressing internal and external failures (Cost of Quality (CoQ), n.d., para. 1). CoQ includes Prevention, Appraisal, Internal Failure, and External Failure costs. The overall CoQ for the project is $72,718, with Prevention costs at $7,980, Appraisal costs at $3,978, and Internal and External Failure costs both at $30,380.

Quality Assurance Recommendations

Recommendations for the NEO project include providing new employees with intranet access, automating presentation version control, observing employee access and knowledge assessments, ensuring training completion, and tracking completion in a common location.
