This is typically achieved through interviews or focus group discussions, providing deeper insights into questions that may have been confusing, ambiguous, or misaligned with the course objectives (Quaigrain & Arhin, 2017). Engaging learners in this process allows educators to determine whether certain items require revision, elimination, or retention.
The quantitative component, in contrast, examines test scores to identify patterns in item difficulty. This may include calculating the item difficulty index, which represents the proportion of students who correctly answer a question. Higher percentages indicate easier items, while lower percentages reflect more challenging ones.
