Part 2: Quantitative Approaches and Data Collection

Quantitative inquiry applies deductive reasoning to explore social phenomena or research queries, yielding numerical data for statistical scrutiny (Bhat, 2018). This method enables problem quantification and informs policy formulation through extensive data gathering endeavors (Allen, 2017). Examples encompass voting polls and United States Census reports (Allen, 2017). Descriptive, Correlational, Quasi-experimental, and Experimental research constitute four prevalent quantitative methodologies (Lucas-Alfieri, 2018).

Descriptive Research furnishes insights into natural phenomena without intervention, employing methods like observational and survey research (Bhat, 2018; Ellis-Jacobs, 2018). Correlational Research delves into variable relationships via statistical analysis (Bhat, 2018). Quasi-experimental Research endeavors to establish causal links without random assignment (Alsaggaf et al., 2018). Experimental Research manipulates variables to ascertain causality (Bhat, 2018).

Quantitative research employs diverse data collection strategies, including interviews, questionnaires, and surveys (Andersen & Walter, 2016). Face-to-face interviews foster rapport but may prove time-intensive (Valdez, 2019). Surveys efficiently gather data from sizable populations but might lack depth (Mander, 2017). Questionnaires, whether distributed via mail or online, quantify participant beliefs and behaviors (Valdez, 2019).

Focused Data Collection

Focused data collection concentrates on pertinent quantitative indicators to tackle research inquiries while excluding irrelevant data (Allen, 2017). To scrutinize the impact of proper surgical timeout protocols on retained surgical instruments, data collection methodologies will encompass face-to-face interviews and post-surgical questionnaires. Transparency and prioritization of patient safety will steer the research trajectory.
