Systems and Ethics in Decision Making: Enhancing Patient Access
Our healthcare organization aims to boost the number of primary care patients accessing our community health center. To better serve the community and increase patient numbers, we propose the establishment of mobile health clinics. These clinics will involve setting up our equipment at various sites around the community, offering services in locations convenient for members without transportation to our office.
Relationship Analysis
Community health centers, federally supported systems, strive to enhance primary care access by addressing barriers such as out-of-pocket costs, lack of insurance, transportation challenges, and language barriers (What is a community health center?, 2022). Collaborating with various entities, including health insurance payers, healthcare systems, private companies, and the government, these centers play a crucial role in addressing public health crises.
In the South Hills of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where a large refugee community resides, families within the Baldwin Whitehall School District face poverty and food insecurity challenges (Family support, 2022; ACS, n.d.). To address these issues and increase primary care access, partnering with South Hills Interfaith Movement (SHIM) to provide clinics at SHIM’s locations seems prudent. SHIM offers various support services, including food, clothing, financial assistance, and education programs.
Problem Solving Framework
Utilizing the DECIDE model for decision-making, our health center defines the problem as a lack of transportation for many community residents to access our services. The proposed solution involves partnering with SHIM, local church groups, and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to provide mobile clinics. Alternative solutions, such as establishing permanent clinics or purchasing a fully equipped mobile medical unit, present financial and logistical challenges.
Conclusion
In conclusion, our community health center endeavors to increase patient numbers through the introduction of mobile medical clinics. By collaborating with community groups and strategically selecting clinic locations, we aim to deliver high-quality care to all residents, irrespective of their means or transportation availability.
