The integration of evolving technology has significantly impacted the healthcare setting for overweight autistic teenagers. Adopting technologies such as EHRs, mobile applications, wearable devices, and telehealth has positively influenced patient safety and care outcomes.
EHRs have demonstrated positive effects on care coordination and outcomes. Studies indicate that implementing EHRs in pediatric settings enhances documentation accuracy, communication among healthcare providers, and reduces medical errors (AlThubaity & Mahdy Shalby, 2023). This suggests potential benefits in managing the health conditions of overweight autistic teenagers through improved information management.
Mobile applications and wearable devices have shown promise in weight management interventions across various populations (Vajravelu & Arslanian, 2021). Although specific statistics on their effectiveness for overweight autistic teenagers are limited, incorporating these technologies may positively impact their weight management by promoting physical activity, healthy eating, and weight loss.

For individuals with autism spectrum disorders, including overweight autistic teenagers, telehealth interventions have proven effective in providing specialized care and support, overcoming geographical barriers.
Challenges and Considerations
Despite the potential benefits, the adoption of evolving technologies presents challenges. Ensuring the privacy and security of patient information is a critical concern (Chenthara et al., 2019). Reflection on Practicum Experience
My practicum experience involved utilizing EHRs tailored to the specific needs of overweight autistic teenagers, enhancing care coordination and communication among healthcare providers. Despite initial challenges in adapting to the new system, the EHRs contributed to more informed decision-making and personalized care planning.
The implementation of mobile applications and wearable devices empowered overweight autistic teenagers and their caregivers in monitoring and tracking physical activity, dietary habits, and sleep patterns.
