Intervention Plan for Client Ashley

Background

This document delineates an intervention blueprint customized to cater to the requirements of Ashley, a 19-year-old Caucasian female student-athlete referred to our services for concentration enhancement. Ashley, a participant in the cross-country/track team, has encountered challenges with focus, anxiety, and performance in both athletic and academic domains post her transition from high school to college. Specifically, she expresses feelings of being overwhelmed by her academic workload, social engagements, and athletic performance expectations.

Analysis

Ashley’s predominant concerns center around alleviating anxiety and stress to augment her athletic performance. While depression does not currently feature prominently, her escalated anxiety levels possess the potential to escalate into further psychological distress if not effectively addressed. Given her track record of high achievement and her mother’s history of anxiety, it is imperative to intervene promptly to forestall any deterioration in her athletic performance and overall well-being.

Intervention Plan

Trust Building Phase

  • Ashley will benefit from sustained support from her coach and team management, with clearly defined roles and expectations.
  • Integration of our services into Ashley’s regular training regimen will establish a consistent routine, encompassing pre-training or post-training sessions aimed at anxiety management and performance enhancement.

Observation

Field observations will furnish valuable insights into Ashley’s demeanor and interactions during practice sessions.

Needs Assessment

  • Candid conversations with Ashley and her coach will foster a deeper comprehension of her performance hurdles, aiding in tailoring interventions while upholding confidentiality boundaries.

Assessment Instrument

The Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 (CSAI-2) will be employed to accurately gauge Ashley’s cognitive anxiety, somatic anxiety, and self-confidence levels.

Interventions

  • Focus: Encouraging Ashley to establish realistic expectations regarding social commitments will empower her to prioritize academic and athletic pursuits without succumbing to overwhelm.
  • Confidence: Implementing positive self-affirmation techniques will bolster Ashley’s confidence and mitigate the impact of psychological barriers on her performance.
  • Performance Anxiety: Equipping Ashley with strategies to navigate performance-related stress, including self-affirmation and visualization techniques, will enable her to approach races and meets with a positive mindset.

Referral If the need for specialized expertise arises, Ashley may be referred to a sports psychologist for further assistance with clinical issues.

Termination of Services

The conclusion of services will be contingent upon Ashley’s progress and the necessity for ongoing support, with adaptability to accommodate her evolving needs.
