Discussion
I am pleased to have completed the first week of my Psych and Mental Health Nursing program. I have managed to learn a few things, including places within the University that will help me blend in quickly. I know that I have a huge task ahead of ensuring that everything works as planned, regardless of possible obstacles. I am excited to experience the best learning techniques and have the support of colleagues and instructors. However, I am still a bit worried about a few things that I feel I am not well prepared for, leaving me with some questions:
- What are some of the best strategies to prepare for exam sessions?
- How can I best utilize available groups to enhance my studies without getting overly involved in socializing?
- What is the best way to balance between my full-time job, classes, and family?
Examinations are the core of my studies; they determine whether I have gained knowledge in the areas I have been taught throughout my study program. Failing the examinations would be catastrophic. Therefore, it is important that I establish an effective way of ensuring that I am well prepared for any form of tests that the institution brings forth. First and foremost, getting to know the timeline for the examinations will allow me to estimate the time I have to prepare. Therefore, I intend to find out the exam dates and keep myself informed of any changes. According to Laureate Education Inc (2018), to effectively prepare for examinations, students must be able to manage their time accordingly and study ahead of time. Therefore, I intend to get prepared by studying prior to examinations and studying ahead of my classes to have an overview of the class content. That way, I will always be prepared to gain new information and ask questions in case I fail to understand new concepts.

The groups in school are helpful in discussing class contents among colleagues. They also help identify challenges that are faced on a daily basis and how best we can overcome such challenges. Besides, the groups play an important part in revising for examinations. We can share past papers and provide plausible solutions with detailed and informed information. However, it has always been difficult to draw the line between social and school contexts. Since these groups have minimal supervision, students are more likely to be more social than formally involved in the discussion of class content. In this case, it is important to be bold enough to make the right decision, such as joining a group with fewer members and strictly focused on class content.
Finally, I have been worried about how to manage my classes, a full-time job, and family. It is always difficult to make time through tight schedules. I know that to be successful in the MSN program it is necessary to get involved in full-time study. That means giving my best at school. The strategy I intend to use is making the three responsibilities into two. I plan to consider my work as a practical part of my studies so it becomes an extension of my professional development program. I also intend to spend time with my family during the weekends. According to Hunimed web team (2017), the secret to managing such a tight schedule is to love what you do. I have developed passion to gain new information as a student and to improve my performance as a PMHNP.
