Career Plan: Mental Health Technician

As a psychology major, it is imperative to comprehend how one manages time effectively to achieve success in their chosen career. I intend to employ the outcomes from self-assessment and self-inventory exercises to articulate a plan for success in my career as a mental health technician. Leveraging my knowledge and skills, I aspire to make comprehensive use of this role to contribute in various capacities. The activities undertaken have been instrumental in facilitating a better understanding of making informed career choices.

As a psychology professional, adept recognition of prevalent issues enhances the smooth flow of tasks in the workplace. A proactive approach involves anticipating potential issues or concerns for every relevant context, akin to brainstorming, requiring professionals to think and reflect comprehensively. I commit to applying ethical considerations and analytical theories in my work, ensuring a professional conduct that avoids any untoward situations with colleagues or clients.

Anticipating potential challenges in my line of work, I have devised effective strategies to address them. I plan to conduct consultations, observations, and interviews with families or schools to evaluate behaviors and contribute towards positive change. Additionally, I will collaborate with professionals while adhering to HIPAA regulations.

Assessment and Inventory Results

The Careers in Psychology self-assessment primarily identified careers aligning with my preferences within my psychology degree. Although the behavioral technician career suggested in the assessment may not be my first choice, it is related to my chosen profession. As a certified behavioral health technician, I will utilize the knowledge acquired to perform tasks as a mental health technician. The Career Skills Inventory assessment provided valuable insights into my strengths and areas for improvement, which I plan to incorporate into my resume for future employment.

The Work Values Card Sort assessment highlighted key values essential in a supervisory role, such as supervision, precision work, collaboration, influence, and moral values. Recognizing the importance of these values in my profession, I commit to their effective utilization.
