Electronic medication administration with barcoding
With the evolution of technology in the world, there are many changes in the healthcare system. Barcode Medication Administration is an advanced control system that uses barcodes to avoid errors of human in the distribution of the prescription of medicines at hospitals. The function of the barcode medication administration assists the healthcare industry because it makes sure that the patients receive the prescriptions without any human error. It helps to lessen medical mistakes by checking them electronically with the help of advanced technology. By applying this technology, the pharmacist matches the prescription to what was requested to give the patient in a healthcare system
I started the study by defining and analyzing the problem, that is the use of electrical medicine by using barcoding. After that, I find the reference material by searching credible data sources to get the information that is related to my problem. There were different phrases and keywords that I used to get the information like Errors in prescription, Barcoding, Pharmacist mistakes, and Barcoding technology. It helps me to find different articles and publications that have information about barcoding medication administration to improve the quality standards of nurses and the safety of patients.NURS FPX 4040 Assessment 3: Evidence-Based Proposal and Annotated Bibliography on Technology in Nursing: Electronic medication administration with barcoding. The credible sources that I used and consulted in my study were Google Scholar, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and PubMed.
Annotated Bibliography
Lin, J.-C., Lee, T.-T., & Mills, M. E. (2018). Evaluation of a barcode medication administration information system. CIN: Computers, Informatics, Nursing, 36(12), 596–602.
Due to errors in medication administration, there is always a risk to the health of the patient. The system of barcode medication administration was introduced in the healthcare system to reduce human errors in medication prescription. The study by Lin et al., (2018) was done to see the outcomes of the application of barcode medication administration. The questionnaire was composed to see the quality, efficiency, satisfaction of users, and befits from it.
The 232 nurses completed it. The part on user satisfaction received the highest score. The data was collected on the occurrence of medication errors before and after using barcode medication administration. The errors of medication decreased from 405 at pre-implementation to 314 post-implementations after using the barcode technology. It is crucial to reduce human errors to make no compromise on the safety and health of the patient.
It is important to read this publication because it tells how efficient it is to use the technology of barcode medication administration to serve patients. It gives information about following the standard procedure to take care of the patient health.

NURS FPX 4040 Assessment 3
This research study was done to see if medication mistakes will decrease after introducing the usage of barcode medication administration technology. According to Thompson et al., (2018), even minor mistakes in the prescriptions and advising the medicines are serious threats to the health of the patient. All the groups of inpatient nursing with Magnet Certification were involved in the study of this publication. The technology of barcode medication administration was used in fifty inpatient nursing units. The mechanism of optional feedback was also given to see the fair results.
After implementing this technology, there was an increase in the safety standards for the health of the patient. The medication errors in prescriptions by nurses decreased by 43.5% after the use of the technology of barcode medication administration. The use of BCMA technology resulted in a 43.5 percent reduction in drug delivery mistakes. The percentage of harmful mistakes in medications also decreased from 0.65 per 100,000 to 0.29 per 100,000. It results in lowering the incidents of real patient injury by 55.4 percent. The advantage of this technology in the healthcare system is that it decreases human errors and improves the rate of accuracy.
This study is important for nurses and healthcare providers to see as it contains advanced information and evidence that how technology helps improve the safety of the patient and reduce the hazards to health.

Prescribing medications in the health industry is a critical task to do because minor mistakes in it can lead to harmful errors. Advanced technologies like barcode medications are used to decrease errors and improve the verification in the administration of medication

In this study, the satisfaction of the nurses was observed on the use of technology of barcode medication administration and how it is beneficial to reduce the errors in medication. Self-reported questionaries were used to get the opinions of 207 nurses from three different Public Hospitals. The nurses were satisfied with the aspects of safety and efficacy in medication after the use of barcode medication administration. A significant positive result was seen after the study.
This study gives the necessary information about the satisfaction of nurses with the usage of technology in the healthcare system and their understanding of it. It was suggested in the study to have prior experience in computer skills before establishing the barcode administration medication technology in the hospital.

Capella 4040 Assessment 3
In the healthcare industry, most companies use barcode medication technology to decrease errors in medicine prescriptions. An interdisciplinary investigation was conducted to see the further effect of barcode medication technology on medicinal mistakes and how nurses use this technology to reduce them. Capella 4040 Assessment 3. To improve the safety of the patient, it is necessary to correct the mistakes made in prescriptions.
When the barcode medication administration technology has opted into the healthcare industry, it automatically reduces medical errors, according to Strudwick et al., (2018). When this technology was utilized, the incidents due to negligence of the healthcare providers were almost finished. It was such a good addition to the healthcare industry. The barcode scanners were used that allow nurses to make no mistakes in the medication prescription of the patient
This study is significant for healthcare providers to read because it has all the information that how the use of technology can add up to the life of the patient and how it affects the quality and safety of the patient. It tells that it is really important to give the right medications with the help of barcoding technology. The right use of technology or not using it can have direct consequences on the patient and healthcare providers.

Summary of Recommendations
The research articles and publications that were used in this assessment involve the interviews and surveys from the nurses and healthcare providers about the use of barcode medication administration. The writers of the research papers focused on the different aspects of using this advanced technology in the healthcare system. It was discussed how the use of BCMA can add up to the patient quality and safety of life.
The research papers give information that why it is important to use the technology of barcode medication administration and how it is wrong to give incorrect medication to patients because it can risk their lives. it also has a bad impact on the practice of nurses. If the nurse is not educated that how to use the BCMA then it can also cause harm. Therefore, it is necessary to get a complete understanding of the usage of technology and its implications as well.
Organizational Factors Influencing the Use of Technology
According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, there are more than 100,000 reports of medication errors. It shows that errors can occur at any point in the healthcare industry. According to Thompson et al., (2018), these errors can occur while putting the data on a computer or while writing a prescription. Most of the time, mistakes happen while prescribing medicines to patients. Due to the use of barcode medication administration technology, these mistakes have decreased so much. The barcode of every patient has its details and all the medications prescriptions are right after using the technology.

Justification of the Implementation
The reason behind using this technology is that it can provide information about medication errors and how to avoid them. Sometimes medication errors can have a bad impact on the health of the patient and they can even result in the death of the patient too. These mistakes can also cause problems for nurses, patients, healthcare providers, and hospitals.
The technology of BMCA has many positive impacts on the healthcare industry but the negative impacts shouldn’t be ignored. It assists by making long databases and medication charts of the patients, but it creates problems for the nurses in practice. It includes the safety of nurses and patients and independency in decision-making. As long as nurses have an understanding of technology, they can use it easily.
