The World Health Organization (WHO) is the leading and organizing body for health. It is in charge of setting the worldwide health research agenda, establishing norms and standards, presenting scientific proof of policy alternatives, offering technical assistance to countries, and measuring healthcare policy.
The Mission and Vision of the WHO
A world where everyone can enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle is the main purpose of WHO. It’s mission is to create a world where everyone may enjoy healthy and successful lives, irrespective of where they’re from and wherever they live. The global commitment to sustainable development stated in the Sustainable Development Goals. On the other hand, it provides a once-in-a-lifetime chance to address the social, economic, and political factors that contribute to achieving better people’s health and well-being worldwide (Smith,2020).

A vigorous, effective WHO, capable of meeting growing challenges and achieving the health goals of the Sustainable Development Goals, will be required to accomplish this vision. We want WHO appropriate for the twenty-first century, and that relates to everyone equitably. We need a well-managed, well-resourced, and results-oriented WHO emphasizing integrity, ethics, and cost-effectiveness.
Prioritizing People
WHO’s the main objective is to ensure that everyone has access to basic health services. It will promote systems for effectively listening to, learning from, and engaging communities and people, such as migratory, orphaned, and disabled persons; those residing in a regional, urban slum, moderate areas; and other disadvantaged groups (Cheng, 2017).
NURS FPX 4060 Assessment 2: Community Resources- World Health Organization
This involvement and the lessons we gain from it will be at the heart of our efforts to invest and make authorities accountable for everyone’s health, regardless of background, ethnicity, poverty, gender preference, or religion.
Putting Health at the Top of the International Concern
When people are active and good in health, communities and countries prosper, and the entire globe benefits. It will work with national leaders, ministers in various portfolios, global organizations, the United Nations system, civil society, and the corporate sector to start making affordable healthcare and preservation from contagious diseases outbreaks a priority for the world’s security, financial, and development initiatives (Cheng,2017).
NURS FPX 4060 Assessment 2: Community Resources- World Health Organization
Implementing the International Health Regulations and addressing new concerns like antibiotic resistance, environment, social change, and medical complications will be part of this. This collaboration will allow WHO and provincial health officials to fulfill their basic functions more effectively, reinforce WHO’s leadership in assuring a safe and healthy world, and, eventually, promote achievement toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
Countries are Being Engaged, and Ties are Being Strengthened
Effective involvement with all Participating Countries and across many sectors is required to improve global health. An upgraded and independent WHO can take a scientific and technological approach that is results-oriented and flexible promotes accessible collaborations, and assures a common priority setting with all stakeholders. In addition, it will advocate for national sovereignty in particular so that nations can participate as full and equal participants in guiding and making decisions that influence their citizens’ health (Hanrieder,2019).
NURS FPX 4060 Assessment 2: Community Resources- World Health Organization
WHO’s work has an impact on thousands and millions of people worldwide. Every program, endeavor, and financial allocation is much more than just a number or a figure in a schedule. It is a life that is safeguarded. It is a child who has the opportunity to witness adulthood. It is a caregiver who observes their child surviving and flourishing. It can be a neighborhood free of disease or a complete geographical area better prepared for calamities or disasters. They have to work with the Member States and worldwide partners. WHO can make a difference?
WHO’s Ability to Promote Equitable Opportunity and Improve a Community’s Quality of Life
WHO aims to promote healthcare, maintain the globe secure, and help the underprivileged worldwide. Its objective is to give universal health coverage to a billion more people, prevent a thousand people from health crises, and improve the health and well-being of people (Cheng,2017).WHO achieves its goals of promoting full equality and improving a community’s quality of life by focusing on its following primary functions:
- Shaping the research agenda and stimulating the generation
- Interpretation and dissemination of useful knowledge
- Setting rules and expectations and trying to promote and monitor their implementation
- Expressing ethical and evidence-based policy options
- Providing technical support
- Intensifying change and developing a sustainable institutional framework
- Monitoring and evaluating the state of one’s health
The Influence of WHO Funding Sources and Policies
WHO is funded by two main sources: assessed contributions (countries’ participation charges) paid by Participating Countries and voluntary donations from Member Countries and other allies (Hanrieder, 2019).

WHO is thankful to all donors, especially those who contribute flexible funding, thematic and strategic engagement funds, which help WHO to be more nimble and strategic in its pursuit of the three Billion goals. As a result, WHO is advocating for more flexible funding structures.
The Member States of the World Health Organization are now debating how to increase WHO funding and make it more flexible, stable, and long-term. The impact of funding sources causes to combat all types of lethal diseases and support underprivileged people worldwide.
The WHO’s Global Health Emergency Appeal for 2022 aims to better safeguard people from health emergencies. This year’s annual appeal includes the COVID-19 response and WHO’s standards for meeting every country’s urgent crisis and catastrophic health needs. Central Emergency Response Fund also allows human authorities to provide life-saving aid.
The WHO’s goals for dealing with the health implications of the catastrophe and the funding needed to do so. They are part of the larger international response’s overall relief and rehabilitation plans produced by allies.
The Impact of the WHO on a Local Community’s Health and Safety Needs
WHO has a great impact on a local community’s health and safety needs because it is responsible in addressing effective dietary and nutritional intervention for example, malnutrition, defined as a condition caused by eating a diet deficient in specific nutrients, excessive in particular nutrients (too high in intake), or improper proportions.
It promotes health services and cross-sectoral policy interventions to help people with mental illness and substance misuse.
Health education and expanded access to sexual and reproductive health and family planning services are among the strategies to enhance sexual and reproductive health.
However, WHO introduced Domestic violence prevention strategies include public awareness campaigns, victim care, protection, and collaboration with law enforcement and social agencies.
Furthermore, Intersectional collaborations for disease prevention and health promotion, educational and social communication initiatives promote healthy circumstances, lifestyles, behavior, settings and reassessment of healthcare services to develop health-promotion care paradigms risk communication.
